Some of these temples are of the 5th century AD. The architecture
of these temples shows the advance knowledge of architecture
during that period some of these ancient temples are.
1. Buddhist temple of the 5th century at Bairat near
Jaipur.
2. Sheetaleshwara temple of 689 AD at Jhalarapatan near Kota.
3. Sun temple of the 9th century at Osian near Jodhpur.
4. Harshatmata temple at Abhaneri near Jaipur
5. Ghateshvara temple of the 9th century at Baroli near
kota.
6. SasBahu temple & Ambikamata temples of the 10th century
near Udaipur.
Important Religious Centres :
Brahma temple : This is the only temple dedicated to Lord
Brahma, the creator of the universe. It is situated in pushkar
near Ajmer. It is beleiveed that Brahma performed ayagna at
this place.
Dargah
Sharif : The final resting place of the great Sufi-saint
Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti. One of the important religious centres
of Muslim . An annual fair called Urs takes place.People from
all over the world come during this fair.
Sri Nath ji temple at Nathdwara near Uadipur. It
is a shin dedicated to Lord Krishna.An important holy place
for Hindus. It
has a idol placed here was taken from Mathura to save it from
the destruction by the hands of Aurangzeb initially it was
planned to install this idol at Udaipur. It is said that this
wheel of this chariof on which this idol was transporting
to udaipur got struck in the sand at place the sarover was
created due to the dropping of often from his hands.
Ganesha temple of Ranthambhor near Sawai Madhopur.Anual
fair takes place during Ganesh chaturthi. this temple is situated
in the fort which is within the tiger sanctuary.
Dilwara Jain temples : at Mount Abu. The marble
carving of these temples are worth seeing. These temples are
open for public during the noon and in the evening.The images
of Tirthankaras of jain are situated in various temples. A separate
hall, dedicated to the doners who worked to wards the building
of these magnificiant temples, houses their life size images
on marble. Karni mata temple : Famous for hundreds
of rats inside the temple, moving around. This is 30 kms.
from Bikaner a place called Desnok.
Chaumukha
jain temple at Ranakpur near Sadri. This is one of the
five holy places of Jains.The land on which the temple is
situated was gifted by Ranas to the jains in the 15th century.
The chaumukha is its principle deity
Shri Ek Ling ji temple is
a complex which houses 108 temples. This place is near Udaipur.
The temple dedicated to Eklingji is the tallest of all. A
black stone idol the form of linga with fourfaces that have
four faces in the cardinal direction of Surya Brahma and Rudra.
Galta ji is a place in
Jaipur. It is situated amidst the range of hills vast east
of
Jaipur. On the top of the hill overlooking the Galta
valley is a sun temple. To the east of this temple is
a water tank which is fed by a pernnial spring of pure-water.
Govind Deoji temple : It is in Jaipur. This temple
is dedicated to Lord Krishna. It has a simple architecture.
Hundreds of devotee visit this temple every day.It was a family
temple for Kanchal mahal of Jaipur.Later on it got opened
for the general public.The Idols placed have were brought
from Vrindavan. The temple is a part of city palace complet
built by Sawai Jai Singh 2nd
Laxmi Narain temple : Popularly known as Birla Mandir.
It has been constructed very recently in white marble. It
attracts a large number of tourists.
Khatu Shyam ji : Is a famous temple at Jaipur a place
called Khatu Shyamji near Jaipur. It is a temple of Lord Krishna,
it draws devotees throughout the year. Bhandashah
jain temple : Is situated near Bikaner city. It is dedicated
to 23rd teerthankar Parshva Nath ji. It was built in 16th
century.
Chaturbhuja temple : Is situated in Merta near Jodhpur.This
is visited by thousands of devotees. Meera bai was also associated
with this temple.
Nakoda ji is a place near Jodhpur where a famous
Jain temple exists.
