Below the Bala Quila Fort sprawls the huge palace complex, its
massive gates and tank lined by a beautifully symmetrical chain
of ghats and pavillion. Today, most of the complex is occupied
by govt. offices, but there is a museum (closed on fridays)
housed in the former city palace. Examples of miniature writing,
miniarure painting of the Bundi school and ivory ,sandalwood
and jade objets d'art as well as the usual armoury
displays, are among the museum's unusual exhibits. City palace
was constructed in the early 14th century. The architecture
has the influence of both Moghal as well Rajput styles .The
City palace is situated in the heart of the old city. Government

It has probably the richest treasure of Rajput and Mughal
paintings of 18th and 19th centuries and some rare and ancient
manuscripts in Perisian, Arabic , Urdu and Sanskrit.Soem important
manuscripts present are - Gulistan (the garden of the roses),Waqiate
Babari(autobiography of the Mughal Emperor Babar) and "Bostan"(Poems).
There is also a copy of Mahabharta the Great Indian epic,painted
by the artists of the Alwar school.
Ther is a good collection of the diverse and amazing Indian
armoury. This section has weapons dating back to the days of
Hazrat Ali,the Prophet's Muhammad Son-in-law, and the swords
and armour of Muhammad Ghori,Akbar and Aurengzeb are dislayed
here. Timings - 10 AM to 4.30 PM
