It is 15 kilometres from Jaipur beyond the hills of Jaigarh
and is like a watchful sentinel guarding Sawai Jai Singh’s beautiful
capital. Much of the original structures are in ruins. From
atop a hill, the fort offers a scenic view of the city below.
The name Nahargarh is derived from the cenotaph
of a Rathore prince Nahar Singh. Legend has it that Nahar
Singh's ghost reigned supreme on the site and it would not allow
the construction of the fort. The ghost would demolish whatever
was build. Sawai Jai Singh then ordered tantriks to exorcise
the ghost who relented on the condition that the fort be named
after him. A motorable road leads to the top of this fort. the
more adventurous tourists can climb their way to the top.
