an example of robust stability combined with originality.

DAY 07 - AGRA
In the morning embark on a full day tour
of Agra. Visit the incomparable Taj Mahal. This monument
a fine example of fusion of many architectural styles
is one of the wonders of the modern world. Built in
1652 by Emperor Shahjahan. It took 22 years and 20,000
skilled artisans to complete this poem in white marble.
Then visit the Agra Fort, which lies across the river
Jamuna. It was here that Aurangzeb the third son of
Shahjahan kept his father under house arrest. One can
get the most moving view of the Taj from the little
octagonal tower in the Fort. Also visit the Tomb of
Itmad-ud-daullah, built by Empress Noorjahan in memory
of her father. It is a small tomb but made of splendid
marble construction. Its craftsmanship foreshadows that
of the Taj Mahal. It was here that 'pietra dura' the
inlay work on marble, so characteristic of the Taj was
first used. This is followed by a visit to a marble
factory to witness the inlay work of precious and semi-precious
stones into marble. Rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight
