Day 1: Arrive-Delhi (Intl.
Flight):
Arrive New Delhi by international flight. Meeting &
assistance upon arrival and transfer to your hotel.
Your room has been booked from the previous night to
ensure immediate check-in after the long flight. Morning
is at leisure.
At 1400 hours, visit the Qutub Minar (Tower of Victory),
India Gate (War Memorial), Lakshminarayan Temple (a
modern Hindu temple), drive past the President's House,
Parliament House and the Secretariat Buildings. Also
visit Raj Ghat and Shanti Vana - the cremation sites
of Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, the Jama Masjid
and drive past the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk. Overnight
at the hotel.
Day 2: Delhi -
Agra (Drive): 0700 hrs., drive to Agra
(205 kms., 5 hrs.) Upon arrival, check-in at your hotel.
Proceed on a half-day city tour visiting the world-famous
Taj Mahal, built by the Moghul Emperor Shahjehan in
1630 for his Queen Mumtaz Mahal, to enshrine her mortal
remains. Later, visit the Red Fort built by Akbar within
which is located the Pearl Mosque and the Halls of Public
& Private Audience. Visit the Tomb of Itmad-ud-Daula
built by Empress Noorjehan in memory of her father.
Also visit the Red Fort. The rest of the day is at leisure.
Overnight at the hotel.
Day 3: Agra - Jaipur
(Drive): 0700 hrs., transfer by surface to Jaipur
(221 kms., 6 hrs.) visiting Fatehpur Sikri, enroute, built
by Emperor Akbar in 1569 and later abandoned due to a
chronic scarcity of water. See the graceful buildings
within the city including the Jama Masjid, the Tomb of
Salim Chishti (a Sufi saint), the Panch Mahal and other
palaces located within the complex. Check-in at your hotel,
upon arrival.
At 1500 hours, proceed on a half day of sightseeing, visiting
the Maharaja's City Palace and the Observatory, the Albert
Hall Museum, the Ram Niwas Gardens. Also, drive past the
Hawa Mahal or the Palace of Winds and through the rose-pink
residential and business areas of Jaipur. Overnight at
the hotel. Day 4: Jaipur
- Ranthambore (Drive): 0800
hrs., drive to the scenic Ranthambore Wildlife Sanctuary
(156 kms., 4 hrs.) where the 'Project Tiger' conservation
program has been very successful. Check-in at your hotel.
Enjoy the serene, fresh, wilderness environment and explore
the surrounding area. Overnight at hotel.
Day 5: Ranthambore - Jaipur
(Drive):
Take an early-morning excursion into the jungle with a
qualified naturalist. The atmosphere is one of suppressed
excitement - the rate of tiger-sightings in this park
is higher than most. Later, a little after midday, drive
back to Jaipur and check-in at your hotel. Overnight at
the hotel.
Day 6: Jaipur - Delhi (Drive):
At 0830 hrs., go on a half day excursion to Amber Fort,
the rugged 8th century fort which was capital of the State
until 1728. Visit the Jagmandir or the Hall of victory
- glittering with mirrors, the Jai Mahal and the Temple
of Kali. Ascend on elephant-back, the hill, on which the
fort is situated. 1400 hrs., drive back to Delhi (258
kms., 6 hrs.) and proceed directly to the international
airport for check-in. |
